I went to school. Did that the weekend before too, and the weekend before that. Also this and next (and a few more "nexts") weekend.

Sounds like you need a chance of pace.

As long as the job that you get after the schooling makes it worth it. But it doesn't always seem to happen that way.

I've been with this company for 10 years.. minus the 3 month stretch with Dongle-Doug, I was with the USN for 6 and then it was In-N-Out and High school. I'm actually one of the exceptions to the rule.. I may change locations, but it's all the same job/company.

But yeah.. learning is good, just make sure you get to enjoy life sometimes too and not dread coming home from work to go back on-line to go to school or that you don't have weekends.. enjoy life.

To be fair, I was suggesting your current situation over the past. But yeah, Some of us have a little more staying power than others...

Seriously brother, how much time do you spend sitting in front of the TV? For some people, that is an awesome opportunity to do a little online work. It's all based on definition and choice. The bottom line, I suppose, is that we shouldn't really judge one activity or the other as a waste (unless it's like a meth habit or kodrik's life or something, then you can judge)

Not a lot actually. I only watch the TV for movies sometimes when I feel like vegging out, or when the superbowl is on or something like that.

I get choices man.. i do. I get that school is good, I do. And I get that it's not a waste or time and that it could really help, i understand all that. I'm not knocking anyone for it. But as a matter of fact.. as it stands, he's probably drinking umbrella drinks on the beach right now.. so It's good that he's taking a break. He needs it. That's my point. Change it up, enjoy life. That's all I'm saying.

Those damn Hawai'i kids wouldn't get off my lawn (beach)!

Actually I have been thinking about exactly this lately. I don't want to do it anymore. I don't enjoy the constant razzing and bursts of pseudo-rage and other stuff. I started deleting stupid FB jabs and not responding to trolly e-mails and all that because I just don't need or want it anymore. This vacation, my first* in many years, helped quite a bit. This isn't some big new thing or whatever, I'm just going to live on Hawai'i time now.

* trips to Vegas for family/weddings/holidays, three day excursions blips here and there, time off when I stay home, things with daily/hourly schedules, &c. do not count

It's OK, but I wouldn't live there. I think if you had a good solid month you could do everything worth doing, from snorkeling and surfing to history and culture. After that, meh. The whole state is very much like Las Vegas in that it is a tourist driven economy. Even their specialized agriculture (tropical fruits, etc) isn't spectacular per se.

As for living there.. yeah, i wouldn't want to do it either. Pretty damn expensive and seeing things past the islands is a long flight anywhere. BUt it is a nice place to recharge and relax.

I have a different view... i think it's like most cities, it is what you make of it. I mean, people like living in vegas too. there's got to be something there worth the attraction. some places do have better draw then other, I mean SF is kind of touristy, but then you get past the draw and see what the city might have to offer, or the view, or the drive, etc.

It is a little more expensive but not much. Remember I live in California. ;)

The flying everywhere thing would suck though. You can't even go to another big island without flying or taking a boat. There's no real "just go out and drive" thing going on, and I loves me some long drives. So yeah, eff that. heh.

For other people it's all good. I totally get why people would like to live there. Just not me.

It's exactly like Vegas in that most of the people who love living on the main island, love it because it's "home" not because of anything it particularly offers. I get sick of it after a week, but I love to go back whenever I can. Most of the people I have known from Hawaii have ended up moving away, especially those without any Hawaii blood in them.

Yeah, I was ready to leave after 2 months. But lucky me, I got to work 6 days a week out there, so we were lucky to see much outside of Hickam.

Well, I'm glad to hear that. Listen, I've been fatally poisoned, there's probably a psychopath heading over there to torture and kill you as we speak, but don't bother getting out of bed, I'll be there in a flash... Maybe you could fry me up a waffle or something, kay?

I'm not going to call anyone out in particular. There were quite a few comments that weren't even very funny from a regular point of view, so I just cut 'em. Someone might say "Oh man, I hate you for going to Hawaii while I'm at work!" not demeaning anybody so it's fine; but someone saying "Wow, you look like a fucking idiot in that picture"* or something... I mean it's like, what? Even something referencing like a funny movie quote or something would be fine.

this post makes you look gay... ;)

So I take it you mean facebook more than here. Other than a decline in activity in recent months (which I have noticed is picking back up, woot), it doesn't really seem like we have changed much over the years. I guess that's good and bad. I think it is more good than bad personally. I love that I can actually post here without judgment... Well, not true, take-to-heart judgment...
