When you come back to the US, you will appreciate things you didn't realize when you lived here, and missed some things from Europe you never thought about, so look forward to it. Life is very long and you might very well live and appreciate many more places. We actually found a 3 bedroom rental with a big yard for a few hundred more than you'd fork out for rent in Vegas. All of our bills are going to go up, but right now we're actually living well below our means. Aside from a dent in the amount we save per month we won't see much impact. It's worth it, though. We've been wanting to move for some time. I will be much closer to my family (sister, cousin). And unlike Vegas, we'll have options in the event we decide to find different jobs. It's across the bay by Lake Merritt (Lakeshore/Grand avenue). My cousin suggested that as a good area. It apparently takes about 25 minutes to get into the city (casual carpool or bus/bart), which is pretty awesome for Chris since he has to commute. We'll be up in the hills. My cousin works at the Embarcadero center and Chris is working by MOMA. We found places in the city (townhouses) for the same amount, but the commute to downtown was waaay longer. |
