I have a few Android TV boxes with Kodi these days as my media centers, which I do use pretty frequently. I can cast content to them if so needed.

Kodi is the bomb. I use it on a rPi2 on one box, a linux box on the other and want to test it on my Amazon Stick some time.

Still use Kodi a lot, but have probably used Plex more often now. Use it on all my tablets & phones, and use the app on TV & Xboxes and Plex serves media to my WDTV boxes. PC's all have Kodi setup on them, and have an Intel NUC setup with Kodi & Steam Big Screen in my office, and Kodi in the Loft for the kids.

Did you pay the flat rate subscription or pay be device or not use it externally? Since I found out there is a plex app for the firestick, I can see how that could be cool to stream home stuff when I'm on the road, but then my DSL upload isn't all that quick.. so I might not want to saturate it.

ALL Plex apps are free if you pay the subscription. If you don't, then some apps are free, and others are free to download but pay to activate.

So my Samsung TV, plex app is free. Same with my parents Vizio TV. Now the Vizio one only just became free.... they were charging for it, or only available via subscription.
Mobile apps, (Apple & Android) it's free to download, $4.99 one time activation fee.

The server is free, obviously. My WDTV's connect to that. I've all but abandoned using Serviio as my media server for devices. Plex IMO is superior.

When I travel, I really rig shit up as I have unlimited data on my work iPad. I set the iPad up as a Personal Hotspot, and connect my Chromecast to it, and then connect my phone to it, and stream from my home Plex server and cast it to the Chromecast. When I went to Florida with the Family this past Summer, I'd have 2 streams at a time going on to each TV in the Hotel Room. One for the kids, one for the grown ups. lol

Let me add... the Plex app on Samsung TV's is the shiznit. Not all TV's do apps the same way that's for damn sure. (Vizio not so hot)

So I went and purchased the subscription.. and I'll probably convert over to the lifetime one, since I really find I like it a lot. I works well on a 9" tablet and the firestick and I even find I use it at home via chromecast instead of xbmc. I find a few things don't play right on it (older dvd rips) but other then that, it's awesome.

Yeah, I'm making a similar contemplation. One thing that bugs me is the lack of being able to sync up videos that are out of sync. XBMC is a champ there. But since i got the Roku 3 for the bedroom, I only have XBMC/Kodi running on a few things now... and one of them is the OpenElec version on what is becoming a fairly aged PC that's been doing XBMC since I moved to Charlotte. That might be getting replaced with a Roku soon too.

I find that the Roku version has audio sync problems. it seems hit and miss but it really sucks that you can't adjust the audio track.

Roku version of Plex? You picked one up? Did you get the stick? I've not had an issue with my Roku 3's... not yet anyhow. But yes, the lack of adjustment bites. Wondering if they're every going to offer/implement? I doubt it... but it'd be nice.
