the archive.

so yesterday the house across the street was put up for sale. so i was interested in looking up the info just to see where a houselike that would fall in price, etc. anyways after spending two hours trying to find a decent online real estate resource, i get pissed off and stop. even the realtor for that house doesn't list it on their web site. what the fuck do you have one for, then? so i remember that krux had some realty web site posted when he bought his and i go to the historical archive to try and find it.

anyways, the archive is funny. damn. go back and read it sometime. i found some great quotes which made me laugh out loud just going through our past conversations:

voltaic (on thief 2): at this point i'm willing to shed this mortal coil, sell everything i own, and move to looking glass studios for the priviledge of cleaning their toilets for free.

tele (on investing): I was thinking of picking up $500 a share stocks from companies that i think have no future....

krux (on music): As much as I hate to say it, I have to side with volt on this one. Volt would never prance around singing dancing queen.

jhartzell (on stealing):Now, if he were stealing bottles of Starbucks Mocha Latte De-caf Coffee, then you could question his sexuality.

blah (on coffee):none of that maple nut crunch fagot shit... except for these little vanilla irish cream things..... har har-

krull (on roller-coasters):And as far as you wimps out there, you could always bring your mommy!

wolfbane (on idiocy):Just like the 'Shiny - Happy' people you must die now.

caliber (on sorority chicks):I've always wondered of those stupid bitches could even bleed or is all their blood concentrated in the ring around their asshole... :)

formatc (on network cards):Wait a cotton-pickin' minute here! I have a 3c905 and Annette Benning still won't sleep with me? Should I look at a new driver or something?

stc (on car leases):You can't afford to pay cash for a car then you will pay with your asshole, every month, month after month with interest in the pain and misery department. Have a nice fucking day.

stealth (on nuclear subs):i do have a drawing on how to make a reactor with common backyard substances.. the only problem is the depleted uranium..

madarab (on porn movies):I'm starting my own company soon.. MadArab Productions, actually it's just a front for Tax Write offs, but it sounds cool. Oh, and in the movie credits, MadArab will be listed as cameraman. =)

shadowbeast (on jobs):Wait, a job with no computers or screwdrivers? No way...

cyberlugi (on thcnet posts):I don't know about yall, but this post has changed my life dramatically. I have now found a reason to get up in the morning, and a reason not to wish my own death at night...

jammer (on memory):I swear I read it somewhere.... To bad they don't have linked lists for your brain....the filing system in my head sucks.

rub (on clubs):I once got so annihilated at a club in LA that I woke up the next day not know where I was. I later learned it was San Diego. I had no recollection of going there nor how I got there.

unicron (on concerts):.fucking lead singer just grabbed his crotch and basically said "look at me ladies" the entire fucking time. This flaming homo next to me wouldn't quit screaming the entire time..much to the dismay of his 12 year old son sitting next to him..it pretty much weirded me out.

dun malg (on learning):Micro$oft sells a giant 5 volume set for $150 that undoubtedly contains what I need, but I didn't get where I am today by PAYING for shit.

kodrik (on coding):Try again, it should work now. Stupid syntax difference!

vlarg (on pain):i just had 5 headaches in 7 hours and a just got a molar extracted. i have a mouth full of blood. i slept ZERO hours last night. WHEEEEEEE!

ruebella (on c.d.s.):I am getting my angst on.

joe (on some dork on the web):And all this time I thought that Erkel was a Brother. I think he was also a stunt double in Revenge of the Nerds.

bmunroe (on advertising):yes, corporate spam, but don't you have a strong urge to go buy Oracle software. It powers the Internet(tm), you know.

and these are the days of our lives. damn the archive is funny.

note: it took me over two hours to write this message and yes, i know how big it is. feel my l33tness.

I'm sure you could make a SQL query to look for unique short words and find interesting things that way. or maybe start with the highest scoring ones.

Highest score would be a start, but I think there's enough posts that have yet to get a score that should probably have one.

Putting different metrics together: highest score, highest number of replies in a thread, longest time difference between first and last in a thread, &c. will probably help give me some starting points. Sometimes you can have a real gem show up in a short thread with a low relative rating. There simply aren't enough regular posters here to make a statistically significant pool.

Key words would be a good idea for certain types of presentation, but I wouldn't want to limit myself like that for the purpose of a decade archive. That would be tantamount to saying that only words I remember were interesting enough to talk about. Then there's the problem of spelling...

Indeed... that feature is not 10 years old as well, so most of the older posts don't have any scoring on them. If you want to hit the database directly I can set your account on snowcrash with access to that.

Well to be fair, this is a Volt thing... he put together the original. If Krux ran it, you'd get all "Utili"kilt references.
