It's ALIVE!!! Currently doing a 2.24 TB raid-5 initialization. Look.. blinkin lights! And yes.. the fan in the lower pictures will be covered up once I have the two OS drives in place.

So sp0rk.. I got my first shipment in of new drives. 4 1.5tb drives with 5 more to be ordered soon. I'm going to try the software raid method of setting up and expanding the drives. The last time I tried it on the RAID controller, I lost the controller (FAIL) and linux went and got hung. Sucked. Luckily I was able to recover the data using a different controller.

So, time to test out the MDRAID crap and see how well that works.

There will be a planned outage some time in the future with a notification before downtime, once I get all the drives in and I'm ready to do the upgrade.

Yeah. I'm thinking I won't have to change up for a while., at least another 2 or 3 years. Maybe by then they will have a better home NAS solution.. or I could at least start deleting things.

Me sorry... yeah, same one. I have done some minor photo editing, but i cant really do anything yet. My laptop has a hard enough time just tryin to draw to the high resolution [yeah i know, but yes, my laptop is *that* old!] so i cannot really tryout any real photo stuff on it. And i am comparing it to a really old and obviously crappy laptop, so maybe its just OK.... I can tell you, that i have had none of the problems, and i see none of the weird ghosting effects that i kept hearing about for the longest time. The 2ms rating really shows. I have been able to game on it quite a bit and i have seen none of these "ghosting effects", or whatever. And i play Natural Selection, so i go from a dark ass area, to gun barrel flash and back to the dark again, which is from what i read and have heard when i asked, what causes the ghosting "most". So yeah, no problems with color, noghosting... Oh yeah, and i have also heard that when you use LCD monitors outside of their native resolution, they do weird things. But at least with my monitor, i have not had these problems. I also keep it in a somewhat cool area [since i am scared shitless of heat around my electronics] and have gamed at 800X600 and 1024X768 almost daily since i got it, and have had 0 problems. Didnt notice anything once so far *shrug* Im glad i made the purchase! hope this helps BTW....

The other 2 things i also heard about... with vignetting at the edges, dont notice that with my photo stuff so... *shrug* And i also do not notice any of the angle problems people are having. I guess its just because i dont try to look at it, at like a 45 degree angle... [idiots...] I guess if i had friends watching me play, they might notice but um.... yeah, dont care. I move left and right when running in HalfLife DM and NS online and notice nothing. In fact i have not even thought about it until now, so if you are looking for a gaming monitor [19inch LCD], id say its probably the best choice. But i have read that other slower monitors provide better color contrast for photo editing, but then you might as well get an Apple display right-

I went ahead and got it tonight. I paid $50 extra and got it at Frys. I figured this way if I had a dead pixel or two, I could just take it back and get another, if I didn't and it's perfect, then I'll suck up the loss. Fuckit, I just worked 43 1/2 hours overtime last payperiod, and today was payday, I'm not going to quibble over $50 for the comfort of returning it easily.

So far I'm loving it. Although I'm probably going to have to get rid of my docking station. I've had my 17" LCD sitting on top of the docking station, and it was ok. But this monitor sits higher, and of course bigger... I need to bring it down a little. heh

It's friggin sharp, bright and beautiful. Loving it.

You know what? Fuck you! How about that?

I've got a VZA912b.. i like it a lot. It's got DVI and svga. quick screen response, no ghosting, sharp colors. I'd say go with a viewsonic. but then again.. my game monitor is a Dell 20" LCD, the model before this new one. It's VERY nice. very pretty, very quick.

interesting problem.. during the copy of the data from one to the other one of the drives went off-line.. I hit the power button on the drive chassis, waited about 30 seconds and turned it back on.. all good. Humm.. Could be because I have been running the drives non-stop for the past 20+ hours copying the data from one to the other. I'm seeing about 80 Mbits across the connection. I kind of expected better.. but eh.. it's ok. I might get off the nFroce4 chip Gig NIC and and put in a 3Com Gig card and give that a go. Other then that.. user accounts have been copied over and they work good.. Cacti is up and running and I've just got to tweak the syslog and folder settings.

Interesting... not quite the same, but last night one of my large drives vanished while I was transferring a shitload of data last night. Rebooted, no errors, no nothing... drive was back a-ok.

I like the fact that the drive continued to copy and then when the drive came back.. it just starts rebuilding. The RAID card is great. Oh yeah.. and there is a web interface to turn off the alarm and check the stats so I don't even have to reboot to stop that crazy buzzing. I should see if there is some good command line tools.

Speaking of drives... in a RAID5 you're ok to mix and match drives so long as they're of the same size, right?

The reason I ask... *sigh* I ordered 2 400GB drives from Outpost while they were on sale, but before I was planning this whole system. Then I decided to build this thing, and bought 2 more seagate drives from Frys, also 400GB SATAII 16MB buffer.

I've just realized that 2 are 7200.9 and 2 are 7200.10.

From what I've found and read so far, I think I'm ok... just wondering what you think.

It'll use the size of the smallest drive in the array.

It'll work.. it just might not be the most optimum of setups. So the slower drives are going to affect the overall raid performance. But the controller itself shouldn't care.

funny you bring this up. That failed array I had earlier.. it turns out it was because one of my drives had died, I couldn't bring it up on another machine or anything else. So.. I've just tossed in Maxtor while I get a replacement for the Seagate.. Rebuilt the array in 2 hours with no increased CPU load and the array is happy. Let's see how long NewEgg takes to get me a new drive.

well... hope the rest of the drives run solid. With that amount, I think you're almost expecting 1 out of the batch to be bad (although you shouldn't!!!). But now that Seagate is throwing the 5 year warranty out there, I'm a hard core convert. Especially with Maxtors no longer having 5 year warranties.

well... hope the rest of the drives run solid. With that amount, I think you're almost expecting 1 out of the batch to be bad (although you shouldn't!!!). But now that Seagate is throwing the 5 year warranty out there, I'm a hard core convert. Especially with Maxtors no longer having 5 year warranties.

Yeah.. I was actually very happy none of them where DOA.. 8 drives.. I mean DAMN The fact that one died about 30 hours into the 48 hour copy isn't too bad.. and it's good that it was caught then and not later. And once that Seagate comes back I'll swab the Maxtor back out and put the Seagate back in.

Since this is now the massive storage discussion thread ;)

All Western Digital drives up to 50% off this week in store at OfficeMax. Whatever they have in the store is supposedly included, even if not marked on the shelf. This was in a printed ad. http://slickdeals.net/#p8038

4x 320Gb drives plus a cheaper RAID5 card = 1Tb online for about $300. Noice!

Wow. 50% makes there drives close to actual prices.. since they (Office Depot) normally charge an ass ton more for their hardware.

They don't mark up 50% over other places... not for drives. $60 for a 320 is a great deal.

I have to point out that they would have to mark up the prices 100 percent for a 50 percent discount to return the drives to normal price. If they marked up the prices 50% and then decreased them 50%, your end price would be 75% of the original price.

I was just saying that most of the time drive at Office Max or Office depot are more expensive, by a decent amount, then the prices at Best Buy or Fry's

Best Buy is just as bad. Frys is maybe $10-20 less (excluding sales, etc).

I don't care how much you compressed it. The file could be a gig if you really wanted. It's size isn't the reason why I couldn't play it under Linux. The proprietary codec you used is the problem.

But as for Linux codecs.Any of these:

Youtube and google video also work well and are easy for people, since they don't have to download anything..

Hey, I'm not Doug... I have a windows machine.. but it's down stairs and I don't really run air conditioner down there, since I'm being cheap. The laptop is upstairs and running GenToo. Since all I do is web browsing with Firefox, and ssh into my server, that pretty much covers everything I ever do. So... I'm thinking of putting together a system. I'd really like a nice RAID controller, but it's just not in the budget. And my experience with my cheap $35 RAID card wasn't so hot in my Dell... so I'm looking at a "better" RAID card... although it's still not up to par with something like you have.

Yeah, so I'm having issues already. Finally got everything from Newegg and realized I'd picked up the wrong power supply. While I got the TruePower 2.0 550, it didn't have the 24pin connector AND the other 4 pin ATX12V connector. Man, every time I build a machine, there is all this new shit I have no idea about. So I took the power supply back to Frys and got an Antec NEO HE 500, which has all the right connectors, but doesn't stay turned on. If I only have the 24 pin in, all the fans stay on, but I get no post. If I add the 4 pin, the fans all spin up, but shut back down a few seconds later. So far, no display from any approach. Have to start searching the ASUS forums and see if I'm missing something.

that truepwer two should have 24 pin plus the 4 pin.. check again.. I have two of those and they are fully stacked with no problems..

Like I said, I returned it. Trust me, it didn't have the connector. What I didn't realize is there are 2 different TruePower 2.0 550's. Mine was the EPS version, or something. It didn't have the extra 4 pin.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103931 that guy.. right?

That's what I'm trying to do with the new power supply, but no dice. It won't post, beep or anything. I contacted ASUS support, but having read afterward about how "quickly" they respond, I decided to just RMA it with Newegg anyway.

Let me add that the Antec Neo HE power supply is pretty kick ass! You only plug in the cables you need directly into the PSU, and all of the power cables are sheathed, so it looks nice and tidy.

How am I gonna get a scar like that eating pussy?

As a side note... Krux, can you please move the "Mark All Messages Read" link somewhere other than right under "Update Read Messages". Maybe I'm the only one, but I keep clicking on the wrong one by mistake, and it's annoying as all hell.

Computers are hard.

The hardest part is keeping up with all the changes.

I always thought the hardest part was all that metal and glass... the plastic isn't too bad though

I hear some use diamonds and shit... now that's hard ;)

that truepwer two should have 24 pin plus the 4 pin.. check again.. I have two of those and they are fully stacked with no problems..

Like I said, I returned it. Trust me, it didn't have the connector. What I didn't realize is there are 2 different TruePower 2.0 550's. Mine was the EPS version, or something. It didn't have the extra 4 pin.

You can get a 20 to 24 pin adapter you know.

So... I'm thinking of putting together a system. I'd really like a nice RAID controller, but it's just not in the budget. And my experience with my cheap $35 RAID card wasn't so hot in my Dell... so I'm looking at a "better" RAID card... although it's still not up to par with something like you have.

Why get RAID at all?

well, for the OS and programs a RAID-0 is wicked fast.. no doubt. And for the data, RAID-5 gives you availability, though not protection. If his wife deletes his p0rn collection.. there is no getting that back (easily) where as backing up to a USB drive gives you that protection. I use RAID-0 at home for speed and RAID-5 on the new servers to prevent a single drive failure.. and still provide a large single storage area.

RAID-o is free and has no overhead.. why not?

I know what RAID is and does. I just don't get why people still think they need it on their PCs. As for "free and no overhead": buying extra hard drives.

speed man.. more drives doesn't make it faster, nor does it make it simpler.. one fast volume for games and data.. better question.. why not? If it doesn't cost you something and it makes it better and you gain something by it, why not do it?

It does cost you something: you have to buy more drives than you would, plus usually a RAID card. With modern PCs, it won't add even one frame per second in any game, video playback, or anything else in terms of speed as long as you have 1Gb or more of RAM (which everyone who does images and gaming should). The only place in which performance is an issue is when you are doing massive file transfers or large file loads/saves. Except for raw image manipulation or one time file copies between large archives, that never comes up. If he really wants a backup solution, I recommend a DVD burner. It will run $50 plus about $0.25 per 4Gb DVD. That's $100 to burn 800Gb in a permanent, non-volatile, can't-be-accidently-deleted format. Better yet, borrow a burner from a friend as a one-time massive archive project and cut the price down to $50 for the media.

I just now archived my entire photo collection including both the raw pics, multiple backups I had on both drives (because of that issue with one of them flaking hehehe), and a complete backup of my website gallery. It used about half a DVD. Savage probably has higher-res images and has shot more, so let's say it would take 20x as much space. That's a whopping 10 DVDs ($3 in media).

So in my experience, I don't agree that it is worth spending the money on a RAID setup for a desktop PC. For a file server like yours or Krux's, sure. But not for a desktop. Hell, maybe that (separate server) a better idea for Savage too, if he really needs all that data available live instead of archive.

what's cheaper.. a 250 internal or a 250 external? with RAID -1 (mirror) you can backup your stuff without even thinking about it.. for cheaper then the cost of an addition external drive.

For load times, file start-up, OS start-up.. a raid-o (stripe) is much faster.. so you can buy two 156's (<60 a piece) or 1x320 (about 100).. and the two 150's are faster. noticeably so..

True, but that's not really a backup. That's like a high-availability solution more than a backup. If you want to go by cheapness, $25 for a spindle of DVDs (400Gb) beats all. <shrug>

I need to see benchmarks showing me that it is noticably faster, except on very large files as I pointed out earlier.

Fair enough. I want to know that even if my shit gets hit by lightning and catches on fire, all my important shit is, in a manner of speaking, off site. And it's alot cheaper.

Why get RAID at all?

Because it's cheaper than a tape drive to backup 100's of gigs of MP3's, RAW, Edits & Resized Photos, Games, Videos, porn and such.

Right now, just my photos are sitting on 3 different drives in 2 computers and a USB enclosure. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with that stuff on a decent RAID5 setup, and burn archives (of at least my photos) to DL DVD's every 6 months or so.

You know what? Fuck you! How about that?

Well having them on a RAID5 is definitely better than sitting without any backups at all. I manually RAID0 my shit by periodically copying my "live" pictures and music folders from my large fast C drive to my smaller, slower D drive just in case. I'm also all for unifying the platform so instead of having all these external things and different sizes and whatnot, clean it up. I guess I'm just overly cost-per-value conscious in terms of: once you get the big backup done and move most of your shit onto DVD and kind of stop and take a breath, will you still need all the extra you bought?

Also as a genuine question out of curiousity, how much shit do you have? Heheh.

Everything? To be honest, I couldn't tell you because of how much shit I have on so many different drives.

I'll hazard a guess right now to be about 60-70GB of photos, 200GB of raw video from DV Camcorder, about 200GB of MP3's right now (been ripping collections from people at work, mine finally, shawnas, and downloading from Steeth & Krux). That doesn't take into account my other "archives", videos, movies, TV shows, Mail backups and other shit.

I went on a cleaning spree a while back and deleted... seriously... a couple 100 gigs of crap I'd downloaded, and it's still left me with a ton o' stuff. Even funnier, I've redownloaded stuff I deleted because I'd end up needing/wanting it a few months down the road.

Well shit that's not bad at all. I thought it was maybe over a Tb. As far as just the raw space, 500Gb is like a single hard drive. You could get two 400Gbs as your D: (for data) drive and have them on a RAID0 with the motherboard's on-board shiznit. That's 400Gb live with a fail-safe, besides what you've burned as archival (raw photos you are done using, archived videocam footage, etc). <shrug>

I am also a pack rat and I have archives going back to Caesars (e-mail, early websites, that MP3 collection I'm slowly upping to st00ph, etc). I guess my approach is burn it to DVD, sharpie it with date and description, and delete it from the drive, unless I need it live. I can easily pull it from my decently-large CD/DVD storage case.

Anyway, you definitely are choosing some bad-ass gear, don't get me wrong. I'm just a value investor kind of guy I guess. Heheh.

So... I'm thinking of putting together a system. I'd really like a nice RAID controller, but it's just not in the budget. And my experience with my cheap $35 RAID card wasn't so hot in my Dell... so I'm looking at a "better" RAID card... although it's still not up to par with something like you have.

How's this look?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816115027

Ok, well the 2300 is PCI-E x1, the 2310 is PCI-E x4.. and there's no price difference. Using PCI-E greater then x1 means that you need a SLI capable Workstation MB or a server board with x8 slots.

I just gobbled up 4 - 400GB Seagate SATA II drives from Frys & Outpost. Caught them for $99/each.

Nice deal.. So you're going to mirror two drives for OS and stripe two drives for data? I would probably reverse that.. put the OS, games and apps on a speedy stripe and keep the data on the mirror..

Gonna get 1 of your BackPlane drive bays
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817119404
Yeah.. I like them.. the locking knobs are a bit small, but then again you don't have to play with them very much. I do like the fact that they have activity lights.. thats damn nice. I might like to upgrade the 80cm fans to 120's (via some adapters) but they really aren't that loud now.. so it's not to bad.

This is the case I'm looking at (but in black)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129154

Nice case.. Note that it only has 4 external slots.. so you'll only be able to put one chassis and 1 optical drive. That is a really nice case though.. slick. No doubt.

No idea on power supply or mobo or anything. Although, I guess most motherboards have RAID built in too... so I'll use 2 of my 250GB drives for the OS and stuff, and have them mirrored.

Use the add-on card.. it will make your life better. And as for the MB.. just remember that you need to look at the boardsa carefully. PS.. I've got a 485 right now.. I had orderd a 550 but that had issues. I would make sure you've got a least a GOOD 450.. name brand.

Well, since the RAID card I'm looking at supports only 4 drives, I was going to do 4 400's for data in a RAID 5, and 2 250's for OS & other from the onboard controller.

Well.. is this gaming AND server or just server? How much do you want to pay. I have a friend looking at the new Core Duo Extremes.. $1K a chip.

Not gaming no... although I think I will use it to crunch a few things now and then, and possibly use it as my Photoshop/Premiere/Adobe station. I know Intel chips usually run those apps better, but fuckit, I'm not looking to be reviewed by any magazine.

You can get a decent AMD X2 4000 for about 200 and a board for another 125 or so and be straight!

I'm not sure I'm ready to shell out for an X2 just yet. Maybe later, but I think an Athlon 64 3800 would be fine for now.

How am I gonna get a scar like that eating pussy?

LIES!!! I TELL LIES!!!

Fuck man... I've broke my budget here. Time to get back on ebay and sell more laptop batteries.

I went with the X2 4200+

This is paradise, I'm tellin' ya. This town like a great big pussy just waiting to get fucked.

hahaha.. HAHAHAHAHAH.. that's funny. I'm debating upgrading my 3700+ to maybe a X2 4800 Toledo or Winchester. Double the performance off the block.. and then maybe following up with an SLI card.. maybe see what Fry's has locally when I'm back in Seattle.. or before Christmas.

well, I started thinking about it... and I could go one of two ways. Strictly file server kinda machine... or a bit of everything kinda machine. Plus it's nice to be able to do multiple things without bogging down...

yeah.. if it's not going to be JUST a file server, then prepare it for regular use.. and if you are going to be doing a bunch of the stuff in windows.. even if it's not gaming, then the x2 will help a lot. good call.

Now to look into mobos and CPU's.

Been looking at a lot of mobos today... I'm leaning toward this one.

http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=323&model=1266&modelmenu=1

Gives me plenty of CPU options, scaleable for the future should I want more out of the system...

The only thing in this world that gives orders... is balls.

Nice.. AM2 is a good choice.. that board is using the older (proven) nFrocfe 4 chipset, vice the newer nForce 500 series.. any reason why you went that way? I would probably make the same decision, just wondering if you had a reasons.

Looking at your choices from NewEgg.. I like that one the best. just make sure you got a good 120 on the fron of the case to blow air over those chipset heatsinks..

I also find it interesting that there isn't a molex connector on the board for the SLI.. most boards have a molex connector for extra power for the motherboard in SLI. I also like this one by gigabyte.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813128321 but the reviews seem iffy.

See quote above for starting reasons.

The 939 chipset has expired it seems, and the other AMD chipsets seemed to have shitty boards. I was very tempted to go with another ASUS board that had 8 SATA controllers, with what appeared to be 2 different types of RAID. A Sil RAID and a NForce RAID, and bypassing the card. But the cheapie card I have has a Sil chip on it and thought it just wasn't worth it for the RAID5 even with going the cheaper route.

I've read a lot about the nforce chipsets in the past, so I stuck with the tried and true older chipset. I'd really really like a stable system for a change. I was going to find a mobo that would take some memory I have laying around, but I'll just check with Corsair or someone and see what they match to this board. Supports AMD's Quiet & Cool technology, which I hope is actually quiet and cool... heh

The ones I'd read about in the past that I wanted to get were the DFI LanParty motherboards. But the reviews just weren't all that hot... unless you were really looking to overclock, and I'm not.

No idea... SLI is something I haven't really looked at much,. regardless of what this board comes with. heh

You know what? Fuck you! How about that?

We're back. Ok.. picked up a Gigabye GA-8N-SLI Pro MB, a Intel Celeron D 351+ chip (with Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro) and a MSI NX7300 GS (PCI-E) video card (new board doesn't have built in graphics card). The sad thing is the total came up to 300 Euro where as if I had purchased it on-line it would have been about $300.. so that's not to bad really. But that just adds to the cost.

Needless to say, once the parts for in the box and I started it up.. everything else went like butter. Ubuntu had no problems seeing the Areca controller and I had the OS up and running in about 15 minutes. The partition and mkfs took only 10 minutes to do the 2TB create. NICE.

So.. now I'm tweaking the OS, setting up some tools and then I'll start coping some data and have a user or two do a test..

So far so good on mine, at least with the card working in my second PCI-E slot.

I ended up getting the RocketRAID 2310 rather than the 2300. I figured if it worked it worked, if it didn't, I'd send it back. Managed to config it, recognized in XP, drivers installed, management installed. Only problem so far is I might have a bad drive. Luckily, it's the first drive on the controller, and it was erroring out right away as it was initializing. So I've turned that drive off and I'm initializing the other 3 just to make sure that goes ok. I'll know in an hour and a half. If it does, then I'll redo the array to make sure there is nothing wrong with the first slot of the enclosure, or the cable, or anything... and go from there.

I'm getting pretty excited about getting it all up and running and finally feeling comfortable to hide all the cables and make it look purdy...

fun isn't it. glad your controller is working.. funny that I had one of my array drives go bad too. sucks, eh? it also helps to have an extra drive around so that in case one fails you can replace it quickly.

between the card I picked up and the two hot swap bays.. I had 16 sata cables. NUTS. that was the FIRST this I checked when that drive stopped working. Guess I wasn't that lucky. That's the kind of thing you never hear. I did hear back from New Egg and I think they want me to ship the drive back to seagate, even though I'd only had it for like 3 weeks. Just got it home from the office. Since it's all working, I tried to clean up some of the cables... did a fair job... tucked most of them in an empty 3.5" slot. My issues:

RAID Card - Cable connections are on the ass end of the card, not the top like yours. Don't like this configuration... but oh fucking well eh?

Case - I thought it was cool having the PSU at the bottom of the case. It is cool, but the 4 pin 12v connector needs to get to the complete opposite side of the case. I have no routing options at all. It just misses the GPU heatsink and the CPU heatsink.

Freedom, baby... is never having to say you're sorry.

the ass end, the short end away from the metal end? that's not a bad spot, but it gets crowded there.

i like the idea of bottom power supplies, but it's hard to find a PS that give you long enough cables to reach. Now if the case would have allowed you to mount the MB upside down then you would have been golden. Some cases do that.. it's a neat idea. And then there's BTX. so many different options.

Well from all my reading, it looks like the PIC-E Graphics slots that most MB makers use are designed JUST for graphics.. as in the BIOS on the MB doesn't scan for other BIOSes on the PEG slot. The good news is that with most of the SLI MB's, when you drop the board into SLI mode it allows the second PCI-E x16 slot to operate at a full 8 lanes AND it scans for the BIOS.

There are a few good links to look at:
http://faq.areca.com.tw/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=230
http://www.motherboardpoint.com/t61088-pci-express-x-16-slot-for-raid-card.html
http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/SLI-card-GPU-device-PCIe-x16-slot-ftopict186983.html
http://www.2cpu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77338

and here's some MB's that they (Areca) support and have tested.. would have been nice to know this BEFORE I made the order.. but oh well.. we live and learn.

I have been fighting with the stupid shit for the past 2 days.. all day. and I can NOT seem to get the damn card to be recognized in any form of *nix at all.. so it turns out I'm not stupid.. I just have a stupid MB. Hate and discontent.

I looked at one initially.. it was over $300 for the board.. but then I would have picked up a PCI-X SATA card.. luckily I've found a decent alternative.

I hate that shit man... I hate a lot of these new standards that I can't quite keep up to date with. PCIx, PCI Express, x1 x8 x16, etc etc. Had all kinds of fun with a few IBM servers and their PCIx slot, and video cards we needed to buy for them, and mislableing vid cards PCIx AND PCI Express, which I guess isn't really the case. it went on and on and on...

I have been fighting with the stupid shit for the past 2 days.. all day. and I can NOT seem to get the damn card to be recognized in any form of *nix at all.. so it turns out I'm not stupid.. I just have a stupid MB. Hate and discontent.

So, since it's Sunday and there are NEVER any fucking computer shops open that sell hardware.. I'm assed out until tomorrow.

SHIT.

Doh! That sucks man. I have a mobo that is finicky about what AGP cards it will read. Fortunately, I use it as a back up server with term-serve. But it could be so much more as a "lab box."

I suppose that if you manufacture a board that 99.999% of your clientele will use one way, you can afford to piss off one or two guys. You're just that guy. Too bad too...keep us updated on the new mobo.

Shut that bitch up before I fuck-start her face.

I have no idea, but for some dumb reason the stupid box won't come on now. I've got to pick up another power supply and see if that's the problem. The only extra power supply I have is a 20 pin.. argg.

So yeah.. the Antec is being a bastage.. replaced it with a Enermax and I'll RAM the Antec as a backup.. I still need a MB with 4x or 8x electrical lines going to the PCI-E slot.

It's ALIVE!!! Currently doing a 2.24 TB raid-5 initialization. Look.. blinkin lights! And yes.. the fan in the lower pictures will be covered up once I have the two OS drives in place.

Impressive
