There are better war movies... Dude, check out Lions For Lambs and let me know what you think. I just saw it the other day. I remember seeing at least some of it (it honestly wasn't memorable enough to remember the whole thing). The scene in Cruise's office when he declares he has no interest in becoming president was one that stands out. Very well done. I don't remember hating it... As of now, my two favorite gulf war films are Three Kings and Iron Man, both of which are glorious fiction and have no pretense as to mirroring real life in this, or any directly adjacent, universe... The Lord of the Rings was a better war movie than most of the shit out there. The rest strike me as trite, unimaginative, profit mongering or worse, political reactionism/radicalism wrapped in what is supposed to be entertainment or documentary. For instance, The Hurt Locker had some interesting story ideas, but the bullshit writer/director/producer whatever had their head so far up their ass trying to change everyone's mind that they forgot they were writing/directing/producing about events in living memory. As such, what was portrayed as only slight dramatic license was instead glorious (and only partially entertaining) fiction. So, since it has come up, Green Zone can suck my ass. You would look funny on fire... |

Have you seen Syriana? I suppose to be fair it's not a gulf war film per se. Yeah, not my style of film. It wasn't bad, but not an area of interest and certainly not something that would draw me in without such. I got it for a buck from redbox back in the day and didn't feel ripped off, so that's a step in the right direction I guess Another example of a non-war gulf film is The Kingdom which wasn't fantastic, but didn't make me want to hurl. I still think Jennifer Garner looks like a man As one acts and conducts himself, so does he become. The doer of good becomes good. The doer of evil becomes evil. One becomes virtuous by virtuous action, bad by bad action. --Veda Upanishads |

There just isn't enough time in the day, much less for those of you with families. You know what's crazy. I do the 4x10 schedule, so I get home around 5:30pm every days and usually have my 3-day weekends free (occasional honor guard or drill weekend aside). I don't bring home work and I only stay late if the fucking world is going to end if I don't finish something (I am purposefully not including travel since that would skew my entire line of thinking here :)). That means I have roughly 3 hours each day with my daughter, about another hour with my wife. I simply cannot imagine burning any of that time religiously watching television. Hell, even on weekends, I barely seem to have enough time to do an outing or two with the family, finish my studying for school, fix whatever shit broke during the week, and god-flippin-forbid a little me-time. So needless to say, I haven't watched any GK yet. It isn't on Hulu, so I will have to find another outlet. "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" -- Juvenal |
