Had a good time doing the trick or treating thing with the baby girl. I'd post pictures, but those of you that would actually give one fuck about looking at a bunch of kids (none of which were drunk) in store bought costumes, can find the pictures elsewhere anyway...

Kids are funny when they get dressed up. I was really surprised at some of the creativity running around the party we had. Good stuff. Way more done up then I remember being as a little person.

Lots of gun stores that will be available.. what would you depend on? A baseball bat? BTW - This movie looks pimp.

OK there are like three primary problems with depending on guns during the Zombpocolypse. First, ammo. Yeah there are gun stores around (not in Europe lol), but even then ammo is a finite resource. It simply won't last, and by the way it takes up storage space that could be used for food and water. Second, when you use a gun, you're making a ton of noise and light, and this draws the attention of zombies. So instead of getting out of whatever situation you're in by semi-quietly getting rid of the one last Zed that remains between you and the open fields, you're attracting the attention of more of the restless dead.

Most people are dumb and don't think of these things, so they will be flocking to gun stores when WWZ hits and that leads to the third primary problem with guns: a bunch of scared people, competing with each other, making noise, shooting each other, etc. And what is attracted by lights, sounds, and the smell of fresh blood? That's right, zombies. When the time comes, I won't be congregating where thousands of other people are. If I magically happen to be the first guy to the Costco, I'm getting in and locking it down as quickly as I can.

So therefore, even if you have a van full of shotgun rounds (which, in my view, is like the ultimate best case scenario for vehicle/ammo), you aren't going far for long. Now to be sure, I'm not saying you shouldn't have any guns at all, but they should definitely never be your last resort or critical to any plan (except possibly the plan to prevent yourself from becoming a zombie when you are finally overrun).

The best weapon is medium length hand to hand stuff. Not the Claymore uber-sword that you swing once and then get pounced, nor some close-up Bowie knife. Ideas include: regular katana size swords, baseball bats, hand scythes, golf clubs, axes, picks, shovels, etc. Make no mistake, these also have severe limitations (stabbing attacks = you die), but they don't run out of ammo, don't make noise, and in the event that tons of people all run down to the sports store, it's unlikely anyone's going to horde baseball bats like they would ammunition. I'm also a big fan of nets, snares, bear traps, and that kind of stuff, but these are more for fixed defenses once you've holed up in your safe zone.

BTW - This movie looks pimp.

Yeah I'm definitely anxious to go see it.

Halloween was fantastic.

Nice outfit..

Thanks.

I think you've been playing to much Dead Rising. I like the malee idea, but you got to get some range to avoid getting splattered. A few boxes of 40/40 rounds and a nice rifle.. that could really help. And really, it's not like you couldn't thin the crowd with guns and gas (explosives) then go hand to hand when the crowd gets smaller.

Like I said dude, I'm not against them, but they are definitely should not be a core part of one's defense in this situation. Yeah if you get some fake-ass movie set up with hordes of Zeds coming at you in a straight line, sure pop off a few and thin 'em out. But that's not how the reality works. And for the record, Dead Rising (among other sources) is a good illustration of why guns aren't so hot. See also: 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, et al.

BTW - If you get to Costco, you better let your AoD Brethren know and let us in!

What are your feelings about getting to a highly safe/defendable place vs. bunkering in? We've seen movies where they fight to get to water only to find their destination island is over run. What about getting to a location with horrible weather to slow them down, like the arctic? I would say staying in one place for a length of time is bad, as we see when people hole up in a mall. Beginning of the movie they have a few, and towards the end a sea of them out front. Gunfire attracts zombies, but other zombies attract them more.

I could probably spend all day designing my "ultimate zombie proof base" and have fun doing it. Water treatment, livestock, insane motion attraction systems at a considerable distance from the base, minefields/bear traps, crows nests for silenced sniping, the works.

Actually, that sounds like a bad ass autocad project.

Also, Zombieland was great.

The key is solitude: no noises, no lights, no movement. Security through obscurity, as it were. With this in mind, all you really need is fresh water, a food source, and an escape plan for when, not if, but when you get found out.

I think the unknown is what kind of zombie would we be dealing with? The kind from most movies, like Shaun of the Dead, etc where they roam around slowly and stupidly... or the kind like in I Am Legend, where they are fast and powerful as all hell, and start to adapt, and create traps just as you would?

You got a toothbrush? We're going to London. Do you hear that, Doug? I'm coming to London.

Oh, I don't know. I thought they were zombie like things... I dunno. They were freaky though... and I could dig doing some hunting in a desolate rundown NYC.

Well, I'm glad to hear that. Listen, I've been fatally poisoned, there's probably a psychopath heading over there to torture and kill you as we speak, but don't bother getting out of bed, I'll be there in a flash... Maybe you could fry me up a waffle or something, kay?

If we're going by classic detention, zombies = undead, which the creatures in Legend weren't. For the sake of the argument, and to say true to the Romero universe, let's go with slow movers.

However, the more likely scenario is zombies = infected live people, which means the fast variant. Sure you'll have some slow movers as well, but I wouldn't count on that.

I would agree with this statement. the fast/quick type seem more likely. That being said, I would do my defense from the point of view of barricade.. get the tools required to live, make water, etc, then board that bitch up Omega Man style..

Let me make my sentence more Stealth friendly.

When I was 8, I came to the United States of America on vacation, or "holiday" if you will. While I was on vacation, there was this marvel called Cable TV, with channels such as HBO and Cinemax. Now, on these channels, you could watch movies with no commercials. Some of those movies had yet to hit the big screen in England, let alone TV. It was mad crazy in a g funk era kind of way.

Thanks.. that makes much more sense. But that was also 25 years ago, back when they used reel tapes for movies. With DVD and digital distribution, there is no reason that movies should be 3 months apart from the rest of the world. Hell, the movie opened in Sweden last month.. Why can the Swedes, Danish and Germans check it out, but the Belgians and Dutch can't? that's just fucked.

Thanks dude. It got some compliments when we went out to a dive bar where most peoples' ideas of creativity were along the lines of: wear my shittiest clothes, put on some makeup, and call myself a zombie; or wear my sluttiest clothes, throw on a hat, and call myself a slutty *, where * is any noun that could be described by the hat, such as: a pointy black hat = a slutty witch. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but its not exactly creative.

Your devo shit was rad BTW. Hahah.

Halloween was fantastic.

Yea, you had a pretty pimp costume.

Thanks dude. Indeed.

Your devo shit was rad BTW. Hahah.

Thanks. It cost me a total of $14. I picked up the Devo hat at Cisco Networkers (ok well technically $1,695 plus $14 then) as that was the silly hat they gave out for the customer appreciation party, where Devo played. 3D glasses I picked up at Defcon at the quantum encryption demo they had. So I just needed a turtle neck shirt I could cut the sleeves off. If I do the costume again, I might pick up one of the yellow Devo suits, but this was more or less a last minute decision to go as Devo.

I was curious where the idea came from.. definitely creative.

Devo? Wow.. PICS!

While I went to a party Saturday, it was just a chill thing. Friday night however, there was a party at the office and I ended up doing the music for it, over 8 hours or so. Everyone was dancing and having a pretty good time. This would be me doing a beer bong. w0rd.

I highly suggest it. $13, and not having to worry about driving. Good fun. Hopefully they'll hurry up and extend it out to Russel like they are suppose to. Once that happens It'll be sweet.

Are they talking about joining it up with the one that handles the Excalibur through the Mandalay Bay? That would be cool.

It runs along the back side of the casinos on the east side of the street, so I doubt it.

Right, I saw that, but then how would it get to Russel? Oh wait.. I was thinking Russel by the Mandalay and I guess you are talking about Russel by McCarren. Right. That wouldn't be a bad idea either.
