Ehh.. somewhat true. Most games have servers and the clients are all outbound. In this case, when you play this game, you might end up hosting the game and not know it, so you have inbound and outbound traffic. I understand the ISp's POV, and both companies know they should use dedicated servers, but they wanted to act like a console, but use all sorts of ports and not the normal 'x-box live' type ports. Most ISP's say you are not supposed to run a server on your service. When you host the game, you do that. "Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary? That's what gets you." - J. And the joy was sucked out your day. I'm sorry man. If this helps fuel your fire.. I think it is a bit of a crock that ISP's say unlimited internet, yet then have some unwritten, unknown cap and once you hit it you get a latter then the boot. I understand some limitations on tcp/25, tcp80 or tcp/443 for home users, but it would nice to be able to purchase a package, for more money, that has no such limits. And no, business class service, with slower speeds and WAY HIGHER PRICES is not the right answer. It's damn hard to find a service that won't do something like that. Maybe DSL service doesn't limit, but I haven't tried it in a while. And yes, throttling on overall user traffic might be fine, on and off, but they could also raise their overall pipe and carrier ability and not have to do it as much. Right, my issue is with throttling when it isn't explained up front, like Caliber said. You're right that when you get an "unlimited" service and they say "no servers", well then there's no reason to bitch and that sucks for ad hoc game servers. But if that weren't an issue and you were just going to town on their bandwidth, they're just going to have to suck it up. "Wow... that's... ZZZzzzzz" - madarab |

To me, bandwidth throttling is like the governor in your car. Why the fuck are you going to put 180mph on the speedometer and then cut power when I hit 120mph. Fucking bullshit lack-of-truth-in-advertising. If I buy unlimited, it should be unlimited. Otherwise advertise the actual allowance like a good little corporate fuckbag, preferably without requiring yet another fucking law to be written. It seems like current thought (an admittedly massive generalization) is to fuck everyone you can for as long as you can get away with it. Its too bad really, because it breeds hatred, justified or not, in the overall concept of "corporation." Then you have the educated and uneducated alike getting all up in arms over shit that is secondary to the base issue... Which, in my ever so humble opinion, is STOP FUCKING ME. As in one of my responses to Stealth's posts, you're yearning for something which would be awesome but which has never been actual. The problem is that mankind is depraved, hopeless, and thoroughly corrupt in every fiber of our very nature. It's instinctual to flip-off the asshole who cuts you off on the road, but it requires effort to ignore it and let it go. This gets into a discussion of the nature of man, sin, etc. "Wow... that's... And to make it worse, you never know if you are hosting or not. The only time you know you are not hosting is when the host drops from teh game and everyone has to wait for 30 seconds to find another server. The multilayer is still tight, don't let unicron fool you, but not being able to play at hosted servers is ghey. When playing with some friends back in the states, it takes a number of minutes to finally find a server/game that we can play at that works for everyone. It's weak. I did see this today, found it funny. I had never though about this.. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/96812-Gamer-Petitions-Infinity-Ward-for-Colour-Blind-Option-in-Modern-Warfare-2 "One such game is Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, which uses red and green to differentiate between friend and foe. on Thursday December 10, 2009 @ 07:24am >> [ reply ][ rating +0 ] The problem seems to stem from the way in which IW.net utilizes a connection to handle online gaming. ISPs have no idea an account is playing MW2 and just see activity that looks like a virus infection, or excessive file sharing. As well as warning letters some gamers have had their connection speeds throttled and others are having to pay additional costs on their regular bill." Wow... that's dumb! Speaking of Virus infections, for some reason I have Symantec Corp at work on Win 7 reporting a a bunch of my pictures as being infected with Bloodhound.Exploit13. The same images are on multiple machines (shared via Dropbox), with the same AV, but only the Win7 box is getting crazy alerts. ??? Oddball shit. Yes, London.
