I wish there was a good, juicy story to back it up. Nothing really there. Someone I know and trust made a comment to my four year old that was VERY racist and I just don't stand for that. Especially to my children. Again, nothing juicy, just people doing stupid shit.

There was a protest here against "hate speech" on radio and tv, and that the FCC should step in to control it. Mostly just people being overly sensitive to the possibility of "offending someone" to the point they want to give up their first amendment rights to freedom of speech. I don't get people like that.

There's some kind of idea, especially in the gay community, that "hate speech" should be illegal. I don't know why that is. It is not illegal to make racist or sexist comments, so it should not be illegal to make gayist (?) comments. I mean if you're inciting a riot or something, sure that should be illegal but that's already covered by existing law. I don't know what it is; gays seem to have a severe victim complex about needing government protection against someone "offending" them.

I know this topic is taking a more macro/societal view, but know that my intentions were with my family, not the legal side. I don't talk to my kids like I talk here. Nor do I expect laws to govern how we speak. I am a huge proponent of legal protection of free speech. That said, I reserve the right to thump the head of anyone who does the "hate speak" to my children.
