While I'm all about the not living in fear and oversensitivity to "terror" I'm calling bullshit on both of these bullshit statements. Bombs are not pretty, nor are they concealed in many cases. While little signs with blinky lights promoting a adult swim show are obviously not bombs, even pre-9/11, some shit like this would have raised some eyebrows. For fuck's sake gentlemen, its a makeshift electronic device with goddamn antennas sticking out near a place of public gathering.

Well sure, if by paranoia you mean reaction to awareness... if you have never heard of car theft, then you aren't going to worry about keeping your car locked. As you learn more about car theft, you start realizing that their are more or better ways to protect your car. Before long, to a guy that has never heard of car theft (or knows very little about it), the guy with 14 levels of protection on his car might be seen as being "excessive." But in the end, it doesn't become paranoia until the reaction to the awareness exceeds the needs. I think when you are talking about 3k+ motherfuckers dying in a flaming pair of infernos, maybe taking your shoes off at the airport isn't as "excessive" as you might imagine. Ignorance may be blissful, but it doesn't make it any less ignorant

Again, I will say that there are gross over-reactions... such as the reaction to the adult swim ads last year. But in the case of a tape-wrapped electronic device with wires and antennas sitting next to a public building with no reasonably apparent use. A little care in checking it out is far from excessive.
