The Year 2012

So 2011 was not exactly a stellar year. It had its above average moments, but the low points bring the average way down. I am quite happy to be done with it and have high hopes for 2012. That said, if I don't see any improvement, anyone want to help me prove the Aztecs right?

So, in the works for 2012:
I will defend my thesis on November 21st
I will graduate (magna cum laude assuming trends continue) on December 8th
I go to warrant officer advanced course in May (over the summer)
I will move from logistics to operations (hopefully by the end of next week)
We are going to Germany after WOAC for a few weeks to see my brother and give the baby girl a chance to see cool stuff
I will earn the lean six sigma black belt
I will publish in at least two professional peer reviewed journals in philosophy (with about 4 more possible if papers are accepted)
I will be eligible for retirement on the 25th of August
I will complete my final treatment to have all the hair lasered off my face permanently

Those are mostly guaranteed assuming the zombie apocalypse or something doesn't happen,

but there are some things I would really like to try to finish this year as well:
I would like to get secularphilosophy dot net up and running, preferably with some revenue generation happening
I would like to send samples to at least 6 publishers for authorship deals.
I would like to finish the Dean Locke revision and get that out to publishers as well
I would like to get a decent D&D game going
I would like to complete the tattoo on my back, and possibly start the sleeve on my right arm
I would like to see a level of mastery on math, science and chess in my daughter

So how about you guys, what are your big plans for this year?

My 2012 is simple from a personal goal aspect and I feel I should be able to get 2/3 accomplished

1) Rail from Beijing to London. This involves the Trans-Siberian Railway and some other fun stuff. Was supposed to go 2 years ago but there were family issues with the family that was going to accompany us. That shit is all in the clear now so there is no reason this should not happen

2) Great Naadam Festival in Mongolia. This is their biggest holiday and is just fucking amazing looking.

3) Visit Antarctica. This is the one that is least likely to occur but goddamnit if I am not going to try.

and after reading some of your guys' lengthy lists i feel like i'm either lazy or not setting high enough goals

Antarctica has been on my list for a few years. It's much easier now than it used to be, there are actual cruises that go there. 20 years ago you'd have to charter a fucking whaling ship or something, hehe.

The cruises are pretty reasonable too. It is on the docket as part of Jasmine's annual "homeschool summertime adventures."

Its an educational trip, not a romantic getaway, so depending on what you got lined up for summer of 2013, might be something to consider...

Some things are worth saving up for. If there is any one advantage of living comfortably within your means, it is that once in awhile, you can spend a few extra bucks on something bad ass.

Sandra and I made a promise to each other when Jasmine was born that we would make sure summers were awesome AND educational. This summer we are going to Germany and bumming around Europe for three weeks, next year we were thinking of this cruise as a possibility (there are a few others on the docket). Basically we plan to use $10k per vacation each year with some give and take (so $7k this year allows for $13k next year etc). That way, by the time she is ready for college, she will have enough worldliness to be a part of the world community.

Its a good opportunity for the wife and I as well, since these are all experiences for us as well, but without the necessary aspect. Its just good time away from home and out in the world.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes you just can't avoid destroying several at once...

I want to read Joe's IT Book.
I want to pick up an AR-15 some time and shoot my other two more often.
I'm hoping to get some time to do more traveling.
I'd like to find a job I want to stay at, in a city I want to live in and without the worry that the job will be gone or have to re-compete again in a year.
If I can finish the year alive with all my fingers and toes this time next year I'll be happy.

Good luck Caliber. Good dope there. Here's my list:

I will continue to put the welfare of my family above anything and everything else in this world.

I'm thinking about having two full time jobs. One I already have, and one I hope to have in November.

Like you, I will have at least two articles published, and included in a company-sponsored book.

I will have finished my first book on cyber warfare and have it submitted to a publisher soon after.

This month is the last laser treatment for me (neck only). Not shaving is freakin' awesome!

If the second job doesn't work out, I'll be starting that second masters program in Defense and Strategic Studies

I hope to buy my first assault rifle.

Who else?

In a circus mirror, what the hell are you?
